#35- Luftpostmarken und Päckchenmarken- 14.10.43

Updated: Oct 29, 2023

Part of The KB41 Collection On This Day Series

This is another update of Herbert whilst in service on the Eastern Front, somewhere in Russland (Russia) in October 1943.

The Feldpost letter reads as :

Russland 14.10.43

Ihr Lieben!

Schicke Euch anbei 2 Luftpostmarken und

2 Päckchenmarken. Auf einen Lustpostbrief

müßt ihr 2 Marken kleben.

Sonst gibt es hier nichts Neues. Mir geht es

gut. Ich hoffe, daß bei Euch auch alles wohlauf

ist.

Wir bekommen hier ganz wenig Ruhe und noch

weniger Schlaf. Deshalb schließe ich

mit herzlichen Grüßen

Euer Herbert

The Feldpost in English reads as:

Russia 14.10.43

My dear ones!

Send you enclosed 2 airmail stamps and

2 parcel post stamps. On an airmail letter

you must stick 2 stamps.

Otherwise there is nothing new here. I am

fine. I hope that with you also everything is well.

We get very little rest here and even less sleep.

Therefore I close

with warm greetings

Yours Herbert

This is a small update letter that Herbert writes home to his family in Kiel whilst in service in Russia. This letter briefly stating of more items Herbert is sending home from the frontline. This being Two Airmail stamps and Two Parcel stamps. These likely being the notable blue Luftpost stamp (A type of postage stamp that was specifically required in order for Airmail to be used) and a Parcel stamp, these having the weighted amount added to them to allow for heavier parcels to be sent via the system. Hebert detailing that Two Airmail stamps must be used to send one parcel, so that his family doesn't mis-send some by not using the correct amount.

Herbert then addresses his family about how he is doing, stating that there is nothing new where he is currently staying and that he is fine. Herbert briefly writing this hoping his family is well back home in Germany. Herbert recalling that they get very little rest where they are and even less sleep. This being the average life of Soldaten not only physically but mentally draining.

With this Hebert draws to a close, the most brief letter Herbert has written so far, even when Herbert was unwell and recovering in hospital we see more detailed in his letters. This letter still ending with warm greetings to his family, Euer Herbert, Yours Herbert
